What a surprise!

Last Monday, our missionary district decided they wanted to go to Zalala beach again.  We had two new Elders who had never been there, so plans were made.  We decided to take little used road that we had seen.  Imagine our surprise when we came upon this sign:
We just laughed and wondered about the safari part and drove further
down the road towards the beach.

A mattress makes the pot holes more manageable.

This room is reminiscent of places we stayed in Tanzania, but not
like anything we have seen in Mozambique.  I was happy to see it
before it gets trashed.

The caretaker let me see the room.  I wanted to move it right then. There were no ants to be seen.
The resort is slated to open in a month or in African time speak, maybe
sometime this year.

This is what really caught my eye.  This beautiful pool was just a few meters away from the rolling surf.
They had just put the chemicals, so it wasn't available to use.  When asked about the safari
option they hemmed and hawed and said they were trying to hook up with
some local National park, Gorongoza, which  is many hours away and is
just now re-introducing animals into the area.  No way is this place going
to stay afloat.

The Elders wanted to grill on the beach.  Toby is a natural with the
grill in any locale.

Thanks goodness for Elder Ostler's soccer ball.  We all got pretty sunburned
on this perfect day.  The Elders were rather uncomfortable a few hours later
when they donned white shirts and ties for their evening  lessons.

Here is a little local culture.  These nets are carried out in pretty shallow water,
brought back in, the fish tossed onto the sand and then the nets are rolled
up in  pretty easy manner.  They snagged a few crabs as well.

Walking out into the ocean with the nets rolled up, ready to be set again.

  2. I also doubt the success of this endeavor. It is nice to see a room and pool that looks inviting. It looks like a great p-day on the beach. Do you have a football as well?
